Ok, please ignore the fact that my swimsuit is way, way too small. In my defense, I haven’t had much time for shopping lately. And I had to include this picture for the action shot of the water.
In spite of his cold and his not-sleeping yesterday, Nathan had a great time at the pool. Like last time, he was hesitant at first, but didn’t get scared this time. And after he got used to it, he let me put him down so he could splash in the water. He was feeling the difference in texture between the tile and the cement on the step, and also kept reaching over the feel the stone lip of the pool in contrast to the water. The best part was that he kept trying to grab at something in the water, possibly the bubbles he was making or the shadow of his hand or just the water itself. And then he would pull his fist up and grab it with his other hand as if to say, “I’ve got it!” Mary and I had such a good time watching him play.
During his second nap (also much better than last night), Mary and I went to the friendly knitting store to get supplies for projects. She’s making a little sweater vest for Nathan, and I am attempting a tiny hat for Sara’s baby. It’s been over a year, I’m a bit out of practice. But Mary and I will be learning together, since this will be her first project on circular needles.
Another exciting development today was barley cereal, his second grain. This was by far the most successful introduction of food so far. He finished it all, and even got mad at Jon for not feeding him quickly enough. He seems to also be eating the avocado in much greater volume than previously. (I’m hiding in the bedroom to avoid being a distraction while Jon feeds him.) A grain and a vegetable, it’s like a real dinner!
